THE BOX TAKEOVER

CRYSTAL PARK PALACE

In Summer 2025, The Collective Members Only (TCMO) partnered with Boundless Theatre and Crystal Palace Park Trust to deliver a three-day youth-led creative takeover at The Box, as part of Crystal Palace Park’s annual Summer of Play programme.

Following a successful collaboration with Southbank Centre, TCMO were invited to curate and produce a weekend of programming designed to attract young people to the park and explore how public spaces can be shaped through youth voice, creativity, and community-led practice.

The Programme

TCMO led the creative production of the takeover from concept to delivery. Over a three-month period, we curated the programme, brought together new and existing collaborators, managed artists and schedules, and shaped the creative direction and marketing of the weekend.

Alongside live programming, we also produced visual content to document the project and amplify participating creatives, creating assets with lasting value for partners beyond the event itself.

Each day of the takeover offered a distinct way for people to engage:

  • Day 1 — Make Your Mark
A hands-on day focused on collective making, transforming The Box into a collaborative exhibition space exploring wellbeing, identity, and self-expression.

  • Day 2 — Chilling & Crafting
A slower, reflective programme centred on creative process, featuring workshops and informal crafting sessions that encouraged conversation and experimentation.

  • Day 3 — Celebration at The Box

A closing day of live art, music, and open jam sessions, celebrating collaboration, creativity, and community connection.

The programme attracted young creatives from across South London and introduced new audiences to Crystal Palace Park as a cultural and creative space.

Our Role

As part of the project, TCMO created artist-led videos and social media content to spotlight talent and extend the reach of the takeover beyond the park.

One spotlight video featuring Nathaniel Sandi, an introverted pencil realist portrait artist exhibiting at The Box, reached 12,000+ views, helping to amplify his work and demonstrate the power of culturally-led storytelling to connect artists with wider audiences.

“You delivered programming we hadn’t hosted before. It felt joyful, passionate, and genuinely youth-led. Your clarity of vision and confidence was really inspiring, especially as we’re at the beginning of our work with youth audiences.”

This collaboration demonstrates how youth-led collectives can act as cultural partners, not just event organisers. By combining programming, community engagement, and content creation, TCMO helps organisations and brands connect authentically with young creative audiences while producing work that has impact both on the ground and online.

TCMO continues to collaborate with cultural organisations, public spaces, and brands looking to engage young creatives through community-first programming, live experiences, and creative content.
